CCMAC’s 15th Annual

Miles for Melanoma, Steps to Stop Skin Cancer 5K Run / Walk

It was a GREAT Day for all who participated! CCMAC’s 15th Annual Miles for Melanoma, Steps to Stop Skin Cancer 5K run / Walk was a success. That is great news, but what is it that really makes it a successful event? Some might want to solely look at the number of people in attendance and/or the amount of money raised, all of which are relevant and important indicators on their own. However, what truly makes CCMAC’s Annual 5K Run/Walk successful is that it provides the Family and Friends of those who have lost their battle with Melanoma an opportunity to come together and celebrate the life of their loved one. In addition, it is a place for those living with a diagnosis of Melanoma, and their family and friends can come together for support and to celebrate their lives.

This year runners and walkers celebrated the lives of, in alphabetical order Gaetano Antonacci, Lynn Bao Devivo, Colette Coyne, Mary Ann Eisner, Lisa Amato Formato, Mary Quoma Gaudino, Amy Gorwits, Alexander Ilene, Margaret Jansen, Leanne Kozak, Vincent Mascoli, Bonnie McCarthy, Vincent McCloskey, Connie McGinley, Frank O’Hara, William Rutkoske, and Wiliam Schiela.

e were also very fortunate to have Teams supporting those living with a diagnosis of Melanoma, they are team; Sharon Galvin, Melissa Klein, Kelli Martucci, Donald “Derma Scan Man” Gleason, Paul Steck and the Oyster Bay Athletes who continue to raise awareness in the Oyster Bay School system of the dangers of unprotected sun exposure. In addition, we welcomed three new teams, The Dragon Slayers supporting Valerie Benkov the original Dragon Slayer, the Road Scholars supporting Melissa Megias, and Sean Wachter of the Pipeline Coffee Company.

CCMAC and the attendees are particularly grateful for the screening services of Dr. Jeff Ellis of Belaray Dermatology and Northwell Health Dermatology who provided the Doctors, Physician Assistants, Residents and Students who once again provided the FREE SCREENINGS at the event.

We would like to thank; Ridgewood Savings Bank for their continued support; Charlie Lombardo SVP of Programming at JVC Broadcasting and JVC Broadcasting for their continued support; and Sean Wachter of Pipeline Coffee for their support and for all the FREE Coffee they supplied at this years event.

CCMAC wants to thank everyone who showed up at the park at 06:00 am to help set up the venue, which is no small or easy task. We thank Cory “Colonel Clip Board” Eisner, and Team Love for Leanne, in honor of Leanne Kozak, Michael Piscola, and Joe “Balloons” Buckshaw and his Helium Squad from team Frank O’Hara.
