2011 Miles for Melanoma Run / Walk

CCMAC’s Miles for Melanoma Run/Walk held in May is the highlight of the year, and the beginning of CCMAC’s Summer Sun Safety Initiatives. The event raises awareness, honors loved ones touched by Melanoma, and provides encouragement, strength and support for those newly diagnosed, and living with Melanoma.

Despite this past years rain, the Run/Walk was a success as always. CCMAC greatly appreciates the unwavering commitment and support of N.Y. State Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg and his wife (top). CCMAC was also honored to have New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, and Assemblyman Dave McDonough in attendance pledging to proclaim the BE SUN SMART® message to their constituents (2nd from top).

In 2005, Robert supervised the six-month project to successfully convert Sperry‘s sixty-seven year “corporation” charter into a community charter; allowing Sperry CU to open its membership to serve all those who live, work, worship or attend school in Nassau County.

Jones Beach State Park Screening

July 2009: CCMAC has been providing FREE Skin Cancer Screenings on the Boardwalk at Jones Beach State Park, and other locations around the New York metropolitan area since 2005. Early identification and early intervention saves lives. Many of those screened are referred to private physicians for more comprehensive examinations and follow up.

CCMAC’s Volunteers, including our doctors whom without we would not be able to offer Free Skin Cancer / Melanoma Screenings.

Bethpage Credit Union, Long Island Air Show

2009_screenings_7May 2009: The Memorial Day Weekend Air Show held at Jones Beach provided an excellent opportunity to raise awareness regarding the dangers of unprotected sun exposure, Skin Cancer / Melanoma. We were delighted to respond to the invitation of the Bethpage Credit Union, the lead sponsor of the Air Show. Dermatologists did spot checks in the CCMAC tent on both days. Thanks again to the sponsorship of OSI Pharmaceutical Foundation, a full page ad containing BE SUN SMART® information outlining regular self body exams was given to every person entering the event. It was estimated that close to 400,000 attended during the course of the two day show. Below (L) Dr. Ted Daly of Garden City Dermatology; as well as Pat Coyne & Kathy Antonacci (Below Right). Kathy works tirelessly to educate others regarding the disease. She lost her beloved husband Guy to Melanoma last year.

2009 Walk

2099 Miles For Melanoma Walk

Miles for Melanoma Walk Our May Walk is always a highlight of the year, and serves many important purposes. It enables families, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grand parents and friends to acknowledge their loved one touched by melanoma.  It is also asource of encouragement and strength for those recently diagnosed with Melanoma to meet others who have successfully won their battle with melanoma.

Cory Eisner, as always does an OUTSTANDING job of coordinating this event. We are grateful for the continuing support of Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (pictured below ) with Colette Coyne, Harvey’s Wife, and event coordinator Cory Eisner) for who the prevention of Skin Cancer/Melanoma continues to be one of his priorities. CCMAC also thanks in particular John Remson and his family, who show up ever year at 6:00 to help set up the tents. We also thank Joe Greblunas of Hillside Beverage for his continuing support of our initiatives, whether it is the annual walk, beach screenings or our dinner dance, Joe is always there to ensure our participants are well hydrated. Thanks Joe!

Ann McDermott – Kave

Ann McDermott – Kave

Ann McDermott-Kave is currently the Director of the OSI Pharmaceuticals Foundation. Ann played an integral role in establishing the Foundation in 2005, after heading up the OSI Pharmaceuticals’ Community Relations function from 2001-2005 and leading Human Resources as its Director from 1993-2001.

CCMAC’s 2009 Annual Gala celebration honoring Ann McDermott – Kave was a very special event, and a huge success. Kathy Antonacci, the event chair, worked very hard to make the evening a huge success. We were also very lucky to have the Metropolitan Quartet provide music during our cocktail hour, followed by the band “His Boy Elroy” during the dinner. CCMAC would especially like to thank Karen Cohen, and Carol Nunziato for all they did to make the event a success.
