Legislators’ NORMA L. GONSALVES & DIANE YATAURO

The Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign proudly honors Norma Gonsalves and Diane Yatauro for their efforts, along with that of fellow colleagues in the Nassau County Legislature for Bi-Partisan passing of the “Colette Coyne Skin Cancer Prevention Bill” which protects Long Island’s youth from the dangers of tanning salons.  Nassau leads again, with the first tanning regulation in New York State. We thank them for their commitment, and continued dedication to the people they represent.

LEGISLATOR NORMA L. GONSALVES

Legislator NORMA L. GONSALVES of East Meadow was elected in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 and again this November 2005.

Mrs. Gonsalves received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from St. Joseph’s College for Women and received her Master of Arts degree from Hunter College and Brooklyn College. Mrs. Gonsalves was an educator for 25 years in the New York City School System. Mrs. Gonsalves resides in East Meadow with her husband, John, and they are the proud parents of three children, three grandsons and a granddaughter

Mrs. Gonsalves has received numerous awards over the years, including but not limited to, “The Anton J. Kaiser Foundation Fellow” Award from the Kiwanis Club of East Meadow, “The 2002 Golden Heart” Award from the Association for Children for the Enforcement of Support (ACES) for her advocacy on behalf of children. The Council of East Meadow Community Organizations at its 2001 25th anniversary ceremony honored her. She was the recipient of the 1999 Woman of the Year Award from the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce.

LEGISLATOR DIANE YATAURO

LEGISLATOR DIANE YATAURO of Glen Cove, represents the 18th Legislative District. She was recently reelected again this November, 2005.

The owner of a small business, a wife, and mother, Legislator Yatauro says her experience in civic activities provides her with a solid foundation on which to build. “I have a better than average understanding of the issues facing Nassau County going forward and I am dedicated to making this county a better place for all its residents,”

Legislator Yatauro is a former Second Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank, she is past Vice President of Oyster Bay-East Norwich Boys & Girls Club.  In addition she is a board member of Portledge School and a religion teacher at St.Rocco’s Catholic Church in Glen Cove.  “I am extremely proud to have been chosen by the voters to represent them in the legislature and am committed to continuing the positive work I have been doing for the past two years and ensuring the goals the County Executive and democratic majority have outlined.” I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this historic time in Nassau County government,” said Legislator Yatauro.
